The present study aims to identify and analyze the motivational components influencing individuals' decision to seek psychological counseling within the cultural and social context of Tehran. This qualitative research was conducted using a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 23 participants who had visited a psychologist within the past year. Participants were selected through purposive sampling based on theoretical saturation. Data were analyzed thematically using NVivo software. Data analysis revealed three main themes: "internal and psychological pressures," "social support and pressure," and "individual and future-oriented motivations." Each theme included multiple subthemes, such as mental distress, helplessness, recommendations from others, stigma concerns, desire for personal growth, and future anxiety. Participants often described their motivation as a result of the interaction between emotional, cognitive, social, and cultural factors. The findings suggest that the decision to seek psychological counseling is a complex and multi-dimensional process influenced by internal struggles, environmental factors, and individual aspirations. These insights can inform public mental health campaigns and strategies aimed at reducing barriers to help-seeking.
