Investigate the Prediction of Procrastination and Perfectionism based on the Emotional Regulation and Cognitive Error in Psychology Students of Islamic Azad University of Hamadan

Abstract

Introduction and Aim: Investigating emotional and cognitive characteristics in students is of great importance, and accordingly, the aim of the present research was investigate the prediction of procrastination and perfectionism based on the emotional regulation and cognitive error in psychology students of Islamic Azad University of Hamadan.

Methodology: This study was a descriptive from type of correlation. The population of the present researcg was all students of Islamic Azad University of Hamedan Branch in the 2024-5 academic years with numbering 1247 people. The sample size was determined based on the Tabachnik and Fidel formula 120 people who were selected by purposive sampling method. The research tools included the Procrastination Scale (Tuckman, 1991), Perfectionism Inventory (Hill et al., 2004), Emotional Regulation Scale (Gross & John, 2003), and Cognitive Distortion Questionnaire (Beck, 1963). The data of this research were analyzed using multiple regression with a enter model in SPSS software.

Findings: The results of this study indicated that emotional regulation and cognitive error were able to significantly predict 12 percent of procrastination changes and 25 percent of perfectionism changes in psychology students of Islamic Azad University of Hamedan (P<0.01).

Conclusion: According to the results of this study, to reduce procrastination and undesirable perfectionism in psychology students can be provided the basis for improving emotional regulation and reducing cognitive errors in them through educational workshops.
