The Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Training on Reducing Self-Alienation in Students of Islamic Azad University, Shiraz Branch

Introduction and Aim: Self-alienation is one of the important psychological and sociological issues in today's societies. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of determine the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral training on reducing self-alienation in students of Islamic Azad University.
Methodology: This study was a quasi-experimental with a pre-test, post-test, and two-month follow-up design with a control group. The research population was all master's students in the field of mechanics of Islamic Azad University of Shiraz branch who entering the 2023 year, which 72 people of them were selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned into two equal groups (36 people in each group). The experimental group underwent 9 sessions of cognitive behavioral training, and the control group remained on the waiting list for training. Data were collected using the Alienation Questionnaire (Seeman, 1966) and analyzed using the univariate analysis of covariance method in SPSS-26 software.
Findings: The results of this study indicated that cognitive behavioral training significantly reduced the self-alienation of students in the experimental group in compared to the control group, and this result remained at the follow-up stage (P<0.001).
Conclusion: Given the effectiveness and sustainability of cognitive behavioral training in reducing self-alienation of students, counselors and psychologists can use the cognitive behavioral training method along with other effective educational methods to improve psychological characteristics, especially reducing self-alienation.
