Retirement often brings a reduction in social interactions and an increase in feelings of loneliness among the elderly. This sense of isolation can adversely impact both mental and physical health. This qualitative study aimed to identify the psychological and social coping strategies employed by elderly individuals to manage loneliness during retirement. A thematic analysis approach was adopted. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 14 retirees (7 women and 7 men) and analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s method. Four main themes emerged: “strengthening family relationships,” “engaging in volunteer activities,” “redefining personal role in society,” and “mental self-care.” Participants managed their loneliness by reinforcing ties with children and grandchildren, participating in cultural programs, learning new skills, and prioritizing psychological well-being. The findings emphasize the importance of proactive and meaningful strategies for enhancing life quality in later years.
