Effectiveness of Solution-Focused Couple Therapy on Marital Conflicts in Couples Seeking Divorce

Abstract

Introduction and Aim: Couples seeking divorce have many problems, especially in the field of marital life, including marital conflicts. As a result, the present research was conducted with the aim of determine the effectiveness of solution-focused couple therapy on marital conflicts in couples seeking divorce.

Methodology: This research was a quasi-experimental with a pre-test, post-test, and two-month follow-up design with a control group. The research population was couples seeking divorce who referred to Ganj Mehr counseling center of Babol city in 2024 year. Number of 32 couples were selected as a sample using available sampling method and randomly assigned into two equal groups. The experimental group received 7 two-hour sessions of solution-focused couple therapy, and the control group remained on the waiting list for training. Data were collected using the Marital Conflict Scale (Sanaei et al., 2017) and analyzed by methods of analysis of variance with repeated-measures and Bonferroni post hoc test in SPSS-24 software at a significance level of 0.05.

Findings: The results of analysis of variance with repeated-measures the effect of time, the interaction of time and group, and group were significant (P<0.001). Also, the results of the Bonferroni post hoc test indicated that solution-focused couple therapy reduced marital conflicts in couples seeking divorce, and this result was maintained at the follow-up stage (P<0.001).

Conclusion: Based on the above results, it can be concluded that solution-focused therapy played an effective role in reducing marital conflicts in couples seeking divorce. Therefore, therapists and counselors can use the aforementioned method along with other therapeutic methods to improve the characteristics of the marital life of couples seeking divorce.
