Developing a Wisdom Education Package based on Sternberg's Balanced Wisdom Theory for Adolescents

Abstract

Introduction and Aim: One of the most effective and practical psychological concepts for improving various characteristics, especially in adolescents is wise and wisdom. Therefore, the present research was conducted with the aim of developing a wisdom education package based on Sternberg's balanced wisdom theory for adolescents.

Methodology: This research was applied in terms of purpose and qualitative in terms of implementation method. The population of the present research was all educational psychology specialists. The sample size according to the theoretical saturation principle was considered to be 10 people, which these people were selected as samples using purposive sampling method. The data of the present research were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding methods based on grounded theory.

Findings: The results of this research showed that in order to developing a wisdom education package based on Sternberg's balanced wisdom theory for adolescents were identified 25 open codes, 15 axial codes, and 7 selected codes, including thinking skills, transcendence of self, self-awareness, transformational assets, emotions regulation, fighting stupidity, and wise mind; so that thinking skills and transcendence of self were among the causal factors, self-awareness was among the facilitating factors, transformational assets and emotions regulation were among the contextual factors, fighting stupidity was among the consequences, and wise mind was among the central phenomenon. Also, the wisdom education package based on Sternberg's balanced wisdom theory for adolescents had 8 sessions, and according to experts and specialists, its content validity ratio was obtained 0.99 and its content validity index was obtained 0.79.

Conclusion: The results of this research indicated that the wisdom education package developed based on Sternberg's balanced wisdom theory for adolescents was valid. Therefore, counselors and psychologists can use this educating package alongside other packages in their psychological interventions.
