Investigating the Relationship between Marital Burnout and Emotional Information Processing; The Mediating Role of Sexual Self-Concept in Women Seeking Divorce

Abstract

Introduction and Aim: Women seeking divorce have many symptoms of marital burnout. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship between marital burnout and emotional information processing with the mediating role of sexual self-concept in women seeking divorce.

Methodology: The present study was a descriptive from type of correlation. The statistical population included women seeking divorce referring to family courts of Shiraz city in 2023 year, which 317 people of them were selected based on a multistage cluster random sampling method. The instruments of the present study included Emotional Processing Scale (Baker et al., 2010), Sexual Self-Concept Questionnaire (Snell et al., 1993), and Couple Burnout Questionnaire (Pines, 1996). The data of this study were analyzed using structural equation modeling.

Findings: The results of the present research showed that the model of marital burnout and emotional information processing with the mediating role of sexual self-concept in women seeking divorce had a good fit. In addition, the direct effect of emotional information processing on sexual self-concept was negative and significant, the direct effect of sexual self-concept on marital boredom was negative and significant, and the direct effect of emotional information processing on marital boredom was positive and significant (P<0.05). Also, the indirect effect of emotional information processing on marital boredom with the mediating role of sexual self-concept was positive and significant (P<0.05).

Conclusion: According to the results of this study, to reduce marital burnout in women seeking divorce can be used educational workshops to improve emotional information processing and sexual self-concept.
