Causal Model of the Relationship Teaching Orientation, Character Strenght and the Mediating Role of Self-Concept in Female Secondary School Teachers

Abstract

Introduction and Aim: Character strenght plays an important and effective role in improving other psychological characteristics. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the fit of the causal model of the relationship teaching orientation, character strenght and the mediating role of self-concept in female high school teachers.

Methodology: The present study was applied in terms of purpose and descriptive from type of correlation in terms of implementation method. The research population included all female secondary school teachers in the first and second districts of Tehran city in the 2023-2024 academic years. The sample size was considered 300 people, which this number were selected by cluster sampling method. The research instruments included the Teaching Orientation Questionnaire (Butler, 2007), Character Strenght Questionnaire (Peterson & Seligman, 2004), and Self-Concept Test (Beck et al., 1990). The data of this study were analyzed by structural equation modeling in SPSS-25 and AMOS-24 software.

Findings: The results of the present research indicated that the causal model of the relationship teaching orientation, character strenght and the mediating role of self-concept in female high school teachers had a good fit. Also, the direct effect of teaching orientation on self-concept and character strenght was significant (P<0.05), but the direct effect of self-concept on character strenght was not significant (P>0.05). In addition, the indirect effect of teaching orientation with the mediating role of self-concept on character strenght was significant (P<0.05).

Conclusion: According to the results of the present study, in order to improving character strenght can provide the basis for improving teaching orientation and self-concept of female high school teachers.
